Short answer

The Model Y Juniper suspension upgrade replaces the springs and dampers on a 2020 to 2024 Model Y with the ones Tesla designed for the refreshed 2025-and-newer Model Y, known as Juniper. Tesla retuned that hardware to make the car more supple and compliant over rough roads, and because the parts are genuine Tesla, they bolt straight onto the earlier car.

What is Juniper, and why is it called that?

Juniper was Tesla's internal project name for the refreshed Model Y while it was being redesigned, the same way the refreshed Model 3 was called Highland. The name came out before launch, owners picked it up, and it stuck. Tesla still sells the car simply as the Model Y.

The Juniper arrived in 2025 with a full-width light bar front and rear, a quieter cabin and a reworked suspension. Model Ys built before it, 2020 through 2024, are what owners call pre-refresh.

Why owners wanted the newer suspension

The pre-refresh Model Y is known for a firm, jittery feel, especially on early cars and on larger wheels. Owners describe it as bouncy over dips, harsh over potholes and tiring on broken freeway pavement, and it gets worse as the original dampers wear under the weight of a big SUV battery.

When Tesla redesigned the Model Y, it redesigned the springs and dampers too. The Juniper setup is more supple and compliant over rough roads, settles faster after bumps and gives a calmer, more composed road feel for everyone in the car.

Because the Juniper parts are genuine Tesla hardware that fits the earlier chassis, you do not need a new car to get that. We swap the springs and dampers and your 2020 to 2024 Model Y drives on the same suspension Tesla builds into the latest one.

Front spring and damper assemblies

Both front corners get the complete Juniper assembly, the same part fitted to a new Model Y.

Rear dampers

Both rear dampers are replaced with the Juniper units and their newer tuning.

Rear springs

Both rear springs are replaced so the front and rear stay matched, the way Tesla designed the car.

New single-use bolts and nuts where Tesla calls for them, torqued to Tesla spec.

Is your Model Y pre-refresh or Juniper?

Pre-refresh (2020 to 2024): separate headlights with no light bar across the nose, and separate taillights with no light bar across the tailgate.
Juniper (2025 and newer): a thin light bar running the full width of the front and a light bar across the rear, plus a touchscreen for the rear seats.

Will the Juniper suspension fit my Model Y?

It fits the pre-refresh Tesla Model Y, 2020 to 2024. If you already drive a Juniper, the 2025-and-newer Model Y with the light bar across the front, your car came with this suspension from the factory. The online booking checks your VIN and drivetrain so the right kit is ordered.

What does the Juniper suspension actually change?

It replaces the front spring and damper assemblies and the rear dampers and springs with the parts Tesla designed for the refreshed Model Y. Tesla retuned them to be more supple and compliant, so the car settles faster and handles rough roads more calmly.

Why is it called Juniper?

Juniper was Tesla's internal code name for the Model Y refresh while it was in development. It leaked before launch and owners kept using it. Tesla still sells the car as the Model Y.

Are these genuine Tesla parts?

Yes. Every spring and damper is genuine Tesla OEM, ordered through Tesla's parts channel. This is not an aftermarket kit and not coilovers.

Will this void my Tesla warranty?

It uses genuine Tesla parts designed for the Model Y, installed the way the factory designed them, so it is not an aftermarket modification. Our own installation is covered for 2 years or 24,000 miles, parts and labor, whichever comes first.

Where is it installed and how long does it take?

Mobile, in your driveway or your workplace lot anywhere in the Bay Area. It is one visit and the car never leaves you. Tesla parts typically arrive 3 to 5 days after the order is placed.

Do I need an alignment afterwards?

Yes, an alignment is recommended after any spring and damper change. It is the one step we hand off, because it needs a laser alignment rack. Any local tire or alignment shop can do it.

My Model Y has high mileage. Is it still worth it?

High mileage is one of the best reasons to do it. The Model Y is heavy, and the original dampers are usually tiring by around 100,000 miles, which shows up as a floaty, bouncy feel. This job retires all four worn dampers and both sets of springs at once.
