Your Tesla looks flawless from across the parking lot, but the inside edge of the tire is shredded down to the cords. Here's exactly why it happens on the Model 3 and Model Y — and the fix that actually makes tires last.

You're not imagining it

If you own a Model 3 or Model Y, this story probably sounds familiar: the tread looks fine across most of the tire, but the inside shoulder is feathered, bald, or worn to the steel. Sometimes it shows up in as little as 15,000 to 20,000 miles. You rotate them, you check your pressures, and it keeps happening.

How negative camber wears your tires

Why Teslas eat their inside edges

Two factory decisions stack up against your tires.

1. Negative camber, straight from the factory

Teslas are set up with the tops of the wheels tilted slightly inward. That improves grip and stability through corners, but it also means the inside of the tire carries more of the load than the outside. More load on one strip of rubber means that strip wears faster.

2. Instant torque and serious weight

A Model 3 or Y is heavy and puts its power down instantly. That accelerates wear on a tire that's already riding hard on its inner edge. Combine the two and the inside shoulder doesn't stand a chance.

It only gets worse from here

Lower the car and the problem compounds — every inch of drop adds more negative camber.

Lowering makes it worse

If your car is on lowering springs or coilovers, the suspension arms sit at a steeper angle, which pulls even more negative camber into the setup. It looks fantastic. It's also why a freshly lowered Tesla can burn through a set of tires shockingly fast if the geometry isn't corrected.

The real fix: adjustable camber arms

Here's the catch. The factory arms aren't adjustable, so there is no way to dial the camber back toward straight. The only real fix is replacing them with adjustable camber arms that let you bring the wheel back to a healthier angle. Once camber is set correctly, the tire sits flat on the road and wears evenly across the full width of the tread instead of grinding down one edge.
